A former hideout for pirates and slave trader haven, the bay of Castelhanos is a paradise that features the beaches of Castelhanos, Mansa, Vermelha and Figueira.

One gets to the Praia dos Castelhanos (the main beach of the bay) by a 22km long road .

This place has several trails that allow interesting strolls to places such as the Cachoeira do Gato and Praia do Gato where human presence is still almost non existent.

Old ruins from what is said to have been an old sugar mill and an ancient slave cemetery are the only signs left by the early colonists.
