A privileged spot for professional and amateur divers this isle belongs to the ecologic sanctuary of Ilhabela created in 1992 to protect and guarantee the coastal maritime fauna and flora.

On the Ilha das Cabras ( Goat' s Island) a statue of Neptun is anchored underwater, a much visited point at the south end of the isle, near the Praia da Barra Velha where the ferry boats arrive from São Sebastião.
